Pete Molloy (1949 – 2025)

Pete was a loyal member of the club for many years, now sadly after a long illness he has passed away.
I first came across Pete in the 90s when I had the pleasure of coaching him. He had found an interest in athletics in later life and he certainly made the most of it. He won numerous Masters titles (at British, European and World levels) and held many records over a multitude of age groups from M40 through to M65.
The 3:58 he ran for 1500m as a M45 was at the time a World Record and I believe is still 30 years on, in the top 3 best performances ever by an M45.
In 2014, probably his last full year, he pretty much cleared the board and topped the rankings for 800m through to 5k, including indoors at 800, 1500 and 3000. That year he was a medallist for 800m, 1500m and 3k at the World Masters Championships.
Pete was always a reliable club member and will be sadly missed by many at the club, who fondly remember him as a real gentleman.
If anyone would like to attend his funeral and would like details, please let me know.
