As my Chairman’s member of Month award begins its second year, I reflect on the variety of recipients that have received the award.
January is a challenge with various indoor events, cross country races (schools and club) and road races.
I have decided to reflect on the fact that for the first time in a very long time, we had a group of our middle distance athletes (8 of them) who went to Valencia in Spain to run a 10k road race. Their performances were outstanding (bit of warmth will have helped) with numerous pbs. In particular Alex Bampton (yellow socks) produced a sub 30 min performance (only 2 Swindon athletes have ever achieved this before), the only person who has run quicker than Alex is our former British International athlete, Matt O’Dowd some 20+ years ago. Congratulations Alex.
