May was a very challenging month for me to select my member of the month. There have been many excellent performances in the Wilts Championships, in league meetings and other open & BMC races.
I did not want to give it to someone who has already received the award in the last year, and in the end my decision was arrived at based on commitment of an individual to the clubs league/team performances. I was still left with three athletes. My final choice came to someone who has been a continual competitor of club athletics for I think 10 years, I believe I can remember cheering her on as an U11.
She is now at university, and despite have to change trains a few times and cope with bank holiday delays, Freya Davidse made the journey to Yate, and won not only the B string 1500m but them despite it being a seriously hot day, completed her ‘warm down’ to win the B string 5k as well. This helped Swindon Harriers to a win for the first time in a National League competition. As chairman I applaud the athletes of the club (there are many) who go the extra ‘mile’ so to speak for the good of the club.
