In Memory of Dave Parsons
It is with great sadness that we have to report the death at the end of last week of Dave Parsons, one of our longest serving coaches.
Many of you will know that for many years Dave had been involved with our Under 11 groups at the track. Countless young people have enjoyed his enthusiasm, patience and kindness. Many of these young people have gone on to represent the club in our youth ranks and as senior athletes. It was very definitely a two-way relationship. While Dave enjoyed the enthusiasm of the young people, they prospered from the very special attention and care he afforded them.
Undoubtedly everyone will remember those extensive "warm ups" in preparation for training proper. No one seemed to mind; Dave was intent on everyone enjoying the session.
Dave's support wasn’t only directed at the Under 11s but was also available to a range of new coaches. His support was always there and always valued.
It is hard to believe that it was more than ten years ago in 2010 that Dave received the Children's Coach of the Year Award at the Wiltshire and Swindon Sports Awards. In typical Dave fashion he was very proud but almost apologetic for getting the award.
As is so often the case it is only after you lose someone that you fully appreciate what they meant to your organisation and that is certainly the case with Dave. He will be sorely missed.
As a club we would like to pass on our condolences and thoughts to Dave’s family at this sad time.
