Winners at Woking

On a hot Surrey day, Swindon Harriers' 9 and 10 year olds dominated the Quad Kids competition, coming 1st overall, 1st in each of the Boys and Girls categories, and with one of their athletes coming in 1st place overall in 7 out of the 8 events.

Francis Abijo continued his rich vein of form, further extending his Boys' total points club record to 252. Francis' performance however was firmly eclipsed on the day by Liam Wood, who totally unexpectedly produced what may be the all-round performance of the season...or for many seasons. Changing footwear at the last minute on the day seemed to do the trick for Liam who knocked one second off his personal best to run a 11.1 75m and came second in the 600m with a time of 2 minutes 2 seconds - a 31-second improvement on his previous personal best!

Not to be out-done, Fin Keating threw the NERF howler almost 40m and upsetting the form book, won the long jump with a leap of 3.76m.

The Girls squad had more of a battle due to sickness and injury in the run-up to this meeting however thanks to some excellent throwing and good efforts from all the girls in the 600m, held resolute for the win.

Well done all,
Steve Sparkes
