Cross Country Update

Although there is no Oxford League match this month it is still a busy time of year for cross country with the South West Inter Counties at Exeter, the County Schools in Wiltshire and the Gloucestershire AA Championships and rounds of the BA cross challenge event.

South West Inter Counties - Sunday 8th January - Haldon Race Course - Exeter

There were many of our junior athletes competing in the various age groups finishing as below.

  • Under 13 Girls - Lavinia Rai (15th) and Ayla Tonkin (20th) were part of a Wiltshire team who took first place
  • Under 13 Boys - Harry Cunningham (14th), Dan Grant (30th), Rian Clarke (34th) and Harry Woods (37th) were part of the Wiltshire team who took 4th place
  • Under 15 Girls - Rachel Oram (32nd), Sophie Capel (44th), Dara Kelly (52rd) and Sophia Bonnetti (53rd) took Swindon Harriers to 5th place in the team positions
  • Under 15 Boys - Jack Latus (26th) was our sole representative
  • Under 17 Men - Ethan Pierce (25th) was the first Swindon athlete to finish followed by Dan Patel (37th) and Theo Roberts (43rd)
  • Senior Men - Barry Clarke (97th) was our sole senior representative

Wiltshire Schools - Saturday 14th January - Chippenham

Club athletes finished as follows. many of these will be going on to represent Wiltshire at the SW Schools Inter Counties cross country in Truro on Saturday 4th February.

  • Minor Girls - Beth Davidse (7th), Kelly-Marie Marsh (8th), Josie Ryder (29th), Jessica Kinneir (30th)
  • Minor Boys - Connor Watts (12th), and Flynn Walters (48th)
  • Junior Girls - Ayla Tonkin (9th), Lavinia Rai (10th), Amelia Skittrall (12th)
  • Junior Boys - Jack Latus (2nd), Dan Grant (5th), Harry Cunningham (7th), Harry Woods (12th), Jack Gunning (13th), Rian Clarke (15th) and Cian Ware (22nd) were part of the Swindon team who finished first
  • Inermediate Girls - Sopel Capel (7th), Dara Kelly (8th), Sophia Bonnetti (13th), Mya Larocque (14th), Amelia Mulraney (21st) and Georgina Robbins (22nd)
  • Intermediate Boys - Ethan Pierce (6th), Daniel Patel (12th), Casey Day (20th) and Matthew Smith (25th)

Gloucestershire AA - Saturday 7th January - Old Down Country Park

A number of our Gloucestershire based athletes competed in the County Championships finishing as follows;

  • Under 11 Boys - Fletcher Hart (5th)
  • Under 13 Boys - Oliver Doughty (14th)
  • Under 15 Boys - Ben McIntyre (2nd) and Max Adams (5th)


Also Ben McIntyre competed in the British Athletics Cross Challenge race in Antrim on Saturday 15th January finishing 9th, for the fourth year running Ben has qualified for the final event, beiong held this year in Loughborough and currently stands 9th in this series of races.
