The Season Starts with Junior Success

Well summer's here, if we disregard the weather!

Most of our T&F teams have been in action since my last blog, the U13/15 YDL team continued their winning ways with a victory in Newport, against some large teams. The success here is that we not only fill the events but we are competitive throughout the programme, here's looking at more success for this team.

Our SAL team went to Andover and being down on athletes due to many reason were a very close 4th in the event, as athletes return I'm sure this will improve and with a growing group of athletes in the younger age groups there is good reason to look to the future with optimism.

This weekend sees the U17/20 YDL team in action and the BMC Event at Millfield, I am sure we will see some notable performances in these events.

The next event on the horizon is the Wiltshire Championships, an event we have historically done very well in and there's no reason to believe that this year will be any different, we should not forget that we have a contingent of athletes from Gloucestershire within the club and I look forward to good results from that county as well.

As you will have noticed we have the contractors back at the track, they are planning to be completed by the 18th May, so just a couple of weeks to wait before we can reclaim our home. As it is our home we will be putting up some large banners proclaiming it as our home, we would like the Under 11 group to design one of these banners, it should reflect that we are Swindon Harriers and what athletics means to us. The winning design will be printed and be displayed at the track, please submit designs to Steve or any committee member. I do not have any news of progress on the large facility being led by STFC Football Trust, but when I do I will pass this information on.

Congratulations to all the Harriers who competed the London Marathon and Harriers who chose to run their 26.2 at a less glamorous venue, as a former marathon runner I feel your pain and joy!

There is a Sport England to get parents active! We have many active parents but there is always scope for more, we have a group of juniors out on Wednesdays and it would be great if more parents were to join as we expect the junior contingent to grow, it's a way of helping and getting or keeping fit, if you're interested please let me know.

We are still looking for input to the website in the way of blogs, pictures etc, please tell everyone about your events and teams etc.

Well that's it for this blog, please feel free to get in touch and best of luck to all Harriers competing.
