Neil England's Training Schedule

Neil's group meets at the County Ground Track on Tuesdays at 6pm, session starting at 6:30. Neil's sessions are aimed at 'longer' middle distance athletes!

Howard Moscrop's group of sprinters, hurdlers and short middle distance runners train at the same time as Neil's group. If the two groups sessions are similar they may be run together - Howard's sessions tend to have fewer reps and longer recoveries than Neil's.

The schedule below shows 'proposed' sessions and might vary depending on the weather, track conditions etc. As there are often more than 20 athletes doing the session at the same time, Neil will usually split the runners into 2 or 3 groups of similar ability. Group 1 is generally the strongest group.

One Group: 15 * 300m off 1¾ minutes (off the lead runner).

One Group: 6 * 800m off 4½ minutes (off the lead runner).
Tue 15/04/2008
Group 1: 2 sets of 5 * 400m, starting each effort every 1m 45s.
Group 2: 2 sets of 5 * 400m, starting each effort every 2 mins.
Group 3: 2 sets of 5 * 400m, starting each effort every 2m 15s. with 6 minutes between sets.

One Group: 8 * 500m off 3 minutes (off the lead runner).
Tue 29/04/2008
Group 1: 4 * 800m, starting each effort every 3m 25s.
Group 2: 4 * 800m, starting each effort every 4m 5s.
Group 3: 4 * 800m, starting each effort every 4m 45s. 5 minutes recovery.
Group 1: 4 * 400m, starting each effort every 2m 10s.
Group 2: 4 * 400m, starting each effort every 2m 25s.
Group 3: 4 * 400m, starting each effort every 2m 40s.

The pace per 400m effort should be at least 5% faster than during the 800m effort, e.g. 2m 30s per 800m should be followed by less than 71s per 400m.
